This is a rhythmic dance style known for its theatrical qualities and is often seen on the stages of musical productions. It is also the foundation for commercial dance (pop videos, TV shows etc). This theatrical style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which require both strength and flexibility (so it is also great for boys). At Warlingham Dance Studio we prepare children for ISTD Modern Theatre examinations from 4 1/2 years old.
It’s fun and dynamic! We offer classes which include learning basic jazz technique alongside a range of more recent styles of jazz dance such as Street Jazz and Funky. You can learn this style just for fun or you can opt to take ISTD Jazz Award examinations at levels Bronze, Silver and Gold. These exams are short and good fun and consist of learning a warm up and 4 or 5 short routines of varying styles of Jazz.
